Hand Embroidery Network

I have just managed to set up my new Hand Embroidery Network site. After searching the internet for many years and joining various groups/social sites etc. I have not come across one dedicated entirely to hand embroidery. I therefore hope hand embroiderers everywhere will use the network to discuss hand embroidery, share tips and techniques and socialise with other hand embroiderers all over the world using the resources that will be available.

Over the coming months I will be adding various resources to the network such as video technique tutorials, an opportunities section and much more... I hope you will take the opportunity to sign up and add your ideas and thoughts on what you would like to see on the network. As a member you will benefit from a forum, a gallery to display your work and share the projects you are proud of, you will be able to create your own groups for the embroidery style you favour and there is an events list.

I look forward to a busy network that will inspire hand embroiderers everywhere!

Felt baby shoes as promised

Its another Monday when I am doing a new posting! The fact is I am so busy making baby shoes and other more substantial embroidered artwork pieces that I have not had time to do any blogging. I have however also been setting up a social network site which I will advertise soon via this blog. Anyway here is a picture of the felt baby shoes that are available on my etsy shop more will be added this week as I have made a batch of them. Im thinking of adding a pattern for sale for them so if anyone is interested in this let me know or maybe I will do a kit with all materials supplied.

Framed Embroidered Artwork

I have just added some new framed embroideries to my etsy shop. These embroidered pieces are framed within an embroidery hoop and are either hand embroidery, free machine embroidery or a combination of the two. Over the coming months I will be working on more embroidered artwork with nature as the theme as I am constantly inspired by my surroundings and the things I see on a daily basis.

Rossendale Free Press

Its been a busy week this week I cannot believe that it is Friday already and the unmentionable Friday!!!! Im not that superstitious but I don't want to push my luck. Well yesterday I had a visit from a reporter and photographer from the Rossendale Free Press who wanted to do an article on my embroidery. They had contacted me last week and asked whether it was possible to do a feature on my embroidery and I had agreed I thought it would  be a good opportunity to plug my idea for a Rossendale Embroiderers group. Of course I did this as well as talking in general about my work and what I want to  to in the future. It was an interesting morning and I had my photo taken surrounded by my embroidery and sketchbooks so watch this space for when the article is published.

Weekend went too quick!!!!

Well the weekend here in Bacup went with a blur of tidying the house and creating a studio space for myself so that I could spread out all my threads and fabric. I managed to complete a pair of baby shoes (image to follow) and have begun the Icicles embroidery which I will add images of the different stages of its completion shortly. Well here's to another busy week and whatever it may bring!

If You Love Embroidery Give Me A Shout!

Ive been meaning to post a message to see if anybody, anywhere in the world is interested in exchanging links to there blog etc. So if you are an embroidery fan drop me a message and I will add you to my blog list.

New Embroidery Project - Icicles

The above picture shows my fabric hooped and ready to start embroidering. After producing the initial sketch I drew straight onto the fabric with a soft pencil. I then decided to use silk paints to block in the main colours of the design then its just a matter of waiting for the paint to dry and choosing the colours and textures of embroidery threads I would use. As you can see from this image I have adjusted the colours from those used in my original sketch.

New Embroidery Project - Icicles

The above image is the quick sketch I did from the Icicles photograph. By producing the sketch it gave me an idea of the composition by simplifying the design as well as giving me ideas for what techniques I would use. Also by working from the sketch I get more feeling for the subject matter as if I had sat there and done the sketch first hand.

My Original Photograph

This is my original image of icicles that I took on Tuesday while out for a walk with my daughter Pippa. I thought this would make a great subject for an embroidery so decided that I would do a series of embroidered pieces inspired by Bacup and the weather and the area I live in. I don't usually work from photographs as I prefer to go out sketching and then work from my drawings or paintings as in the floral watercolour paintings in the portfolio section of my website. As you will be able to see in the embroidery section the floral embroideries are taken from many of these floral paintings.

Busy Busy Busy!!!!

I was very busy yesterday and did not get a chance to post a message. I was busy cutting out baby shoes for my new range of hand embroidered baby shoes (of which I will post an image soon) and finishing another hankie design which is now on my etsy shop.
I have also just started a new embroidery inspired by the surrounding landscape of Bacup I will show images of this new project in a separate post. It is going to take me awhile to complete so with all the products I am sure going to be busy over the next few weeks.

Snow again in Bacup!!!!

I did not get a chance to post a message yesterday as I was busy creating some new designs for hankies. I did manage however to take these pictures of Bacup and my little ones in the snow. Pippa is not impressed by the snow I think, but Oscar really enjoyed going to school on his sledge!
