I have been doing a spot of doodling from my sketchbook studies using pen and ink, pencil and my sewing machine. The ideas came from the effects bugs have on leaves. I love the marks they make when they eat into a leaf. It is fascinating the different marks left in the leaves creating varying patterns and textures.
I am continuing with my sketchbook work and trying to get a looser quality with only suggestions of the different elements. I am also trying a mixed media approach as well. These are small A4 studies that maybe worked up into larger paintings or even machine embroideries.
I have just to put the back on my Jane Eyre postcard so it will be up on the blog this week as a giveaway! Over the weekend I have been doing some sketching of the children. It seems like ages since I just sat down and sketched so I have decided to do at least one sketch a day to keep my hand in. I have a sketchbook that I just use for sketches of the kids and so I am trying to fill this up! Looking it through it though at the weekend I thought I might start using some of the sketches in an embroidered piece on an old baby blanket so I am going to start this today and see where I go with it!
My sketches above show I have been a bit out of touch with drawing so I definitely need more practice especially on the mouths which I have to say I have always had a problem with!
It seems ages that I did a blog post but I have been really busy lately with my course and also the HEN community. First of all let me say thanks for all the lovely comments that have been left on my blog recently! I love reading them and really appreciate them!
I passed my second holistic therapy assignment which is great and I am well on with studying for my second one! I am also having to make changes to the HEN ning community as ning are no longer offering free their services so I will have to start paying to keep the community going! This is not a problem however as I would hate for it to go, myself and hubby Andrew have put so much work into it over the last year or so! I am trying to make the community lots more fun and ning will be adding lots more features once they introduce the payment plans so it will be interesting to see how we can develop it further.
I am also finishing my Jane Eyre postcard and when I do I am offering it as a giveaway here on my blog so do check back for that! I have never done a giveaway on my blog so this will be the very first Sarah Whittle embroidery giveaway. Knowing my luck nobody will want it ha ha ha! Anyway back to work and if you fancy a chat about anything embroidery related you know where to find me! http://handembroidery.ning.com/
