Bird of Prey Studies

I have been working in my sketchbook on a series of bird of prey studies in coloured pencils and pencil. I am now interpreting one of the head studies in stitch onto a piece of cream felt I made a few weeks ago. The very top head is the one I am working in stitch. I have drawn the outline of the bird of prey freehand in vanishing pen as a guide but just like the coloured pencil version I need to build up the feathers with layers of threads. I haven't worked this way on felt before but I made three pieces of felt and they have be crying out to be stitched on, plus I like the fact it is all free hand stitching with no hoop!

I am a creative, I am a creative!

I started out making masks, then made some felt and then started drawing! I have decided I am a Jack of all trades! What is the saying 'A Jack of all trades and master of none'? mmmmmmmmmm maybe that is me but I don't know I guess I just love being creative and what ever comes out on a particular day will be! I see all these people who have one style and produce one type of thing and I think shall I do that? Maybe I should? But then again no I get bored too easy! Am I a master embroiderer? Nope there is so much to learn, stitches and techniques I don't know yet! Am I a master artist? Nope I just love to draw and paint! So what is the theme here? I draw, I paint, I embroider, I sew, I knit, I photograph even! Therefore I create! That must make me a creative! Next time the self doubt creeps in and I shuffle off to who knows where to lick my wounds, just give me a slap and I will be back! My mantra for each day 'I am a creative, I am a creative, I am a creative'. At some point if I'm lucky it may sink in!

Experimenting with Felt

While I have been working on my mask project I have been experimenting with materials and started making felt yesterday something I haven't done for awhile. I loved making my moths balls embroideries and thought that they would also make some cool jewellery at some point so striking while the iron is hot I have created some brooches for my etsy shop that I really like so I think I will make some more!

I have been invited to join the Etsy NeedleArts Team (EtsyNEAT) and I have been added  to a few very neat embroidery treasuries over the past few days, check them out here: Needle & Thread Arts, Candy Colored CraftsEvery Bit of Blue is Precocious and This Ain't Your Gramma's Needlework!

I have also been doing a spot of recycling and I am experimenting with ring pulls, wire and cans to make my inuit finger puppets, pictures soon.
